SS Allgemeine insignia set

Hello Gentlemen!

I thought I would share my most recent acquisition (in the mail today). Allgemeine SS matching insignia set for Scharfuhrer in the 68th Fusstandarte "Regensburg". Its taken from the same uniform according to the seller. Which I firmly believe in as well. Seller got it straght from the US vet. Notice the splendid quality of the embroidered 68. Unfortunately the moths seems to like old militaria for breakfast, lunch and dinner...

Comments, good or bad, are of course welcome However I feel there will be few negative....

I agree with my European colleague. Moths especially like Abzeichentuch, that is, badge cloth. It has more wool than the woolen blend of the uniform. Of note is the difference in the tags, (Schulterstueck and Kragenspiegel) which indicates perhaps the chap changed his unit. Further, I have seen many black uniforms with the Oberscharfuehrer rank, in fact.

Allgemeine tabs seems to be quite rare compared to Waffen SS and seldom showed. Maybe less interest from collectors? Or quite rare insignias?

I seldom see tabs like these on dealers sites.

I agree with you as to the rarity of such items as these. I cannot generalize about the interest of collectors, but I do think that the following factors operated: a.) reduction in force of this branch of the SS after 1939, combined with b.) the recyling of the uniforms (in part....not in whole....) during wartime are then added to: c.) to the destruction of incriminating regalia in 1945 and after make this material rather rare. I also think that there is greater collector interest in the SS-at -arms kinds of material, although authentic black uniforms in an untouched state are much desired.

You have a nice set of insignia, with character and a pleasing patina. The cuff titles, however, in the model after 1937 with alu borders are more common than the collar patches. The cuff titles with the colored borders are a more difficult proposition.

Colleagues Wood, Coleman, Hassler and Hritz can speak to this issue better than can I.

Such collar tabs are realy my taste and anyhow hard to find !
