    Waffen-SS Panzer Officer M43 Cap

Here is a fairly rare Waffen-SS Panzer officer's M43 cap with flatwire insignia.

I know these are controversial and some collectors don't believe in them.

I cannot see anything wrong with it myself.

However, a well known West Coast dealer told me no-one on the Forums can possibly be qualified to make a judgement on these as nobody has ever shown an authentic one.

Looks perfect to me, are West coast dealers privy to somthing the rest of us are not?

Show me an original Heer Panzer officers M43....An unquestionable one,I never see these come up for sale, real ones anyway.

Seems like these SS Panzer M43's are for sale everywhere, I have never seen a real SS Panzer officers M43 so I can't comment on this one.

I am quite certain that there were more Heer Panzer divisions than SS so why do no Heer Panzer officers M43's ever come up for sale.

Glenn I know what you are saying. However, the number appearing does not necessarily make them all bad. Like Greg Domian said recently about Hitlerjugend cufftitles "For years I had not seen any HJ cufftitles for sale and now within the past year I have seen around 5."

Counting the cap I have (which I believe came from Martin), I have seen 4 in the last 2 years. In comparison to another rare cap - the SS Panzer officer M40 sidecap, I have seen about 5 sold in the same time and there are a few more of these original M40 caps I know of in other collections. I can say this only includes those with authentic insignia, although the chance they were restored/reworked is always there.

Why Heer Panzer officer caps don't appear for sale, and these SS caps do, is a good question though.

"A well known west coast dealer" also said that all waffen SS officer visor caps carried the thin type of chin cords rather than the thick. Or that a real Waffen SS officers tunic is valued at $20,000 or more. Among other things that are really just said to gain trust that he is the dealer to go to and no one else. I like the cap despite the contraversy and feel its one of those items that you would have to really not weigh too many opinions on unless it were blatantly a fake and just enjoy it. Remember that glitz and glamour do not an expert make, I saw a fake eagle on a tunic and a very odd color piped visor I wouldnt have touched while visiting such a dealer. Why doesnt he participate in forums? It looks better if you pretend to be more important than you are. I think Glenns opinion is far more valid.

Clearly more than one "variety" existed and to make an accurate evaluation one would have to examine the hat.

However, the three Original SS Pz officer, single button M43 hats that I have seen all have had significant differences from the one posted in this thread.

At last someone that has seen some of these.

Can you elaborate on some of the differences for us?
