Thank you all for your comments - highly appreciated! It was originally indeed a Heer cap, and I don't bother about that, because it has iron provenance. The vet is wearing this exact cap on a portrait photo, somewhere in 1944.
The cap is not mine. It resides in family hands and will stay there. The children of this veteran are all very interested in his war stories and treasure this visor cap in remembrance of their father's service in the Waffen-SS. Not everything has to end up in collector hands.
