There is something about it that I don't like, but maybe I have become overly cynical about anything I see since the forum opened my eyes

I actually like this one. I think the backing is some sort of protective cover. I have encountered this before on trade patches. I also like the cut line of white stiching. I assume the front is covered in white hairs that would come off with a light brush! Construction looks good. I think www.germanmilitaria.com has one in their Waffen SS section you could compare with.
