The larger periodical was published in the Protectorate Bohemia/Moravia (i.e. the present day Czech Republic) by Volk and Reich Verlag, a publishing house that very much pushed the geo-strategic and racist goals of the regime. By November of 1941, Heydrich was Emil Hacha's boss, as v. Neurath was in poor health, done in, no doubt, by the excellent food (dumplings, beer, roast duck, superb deserts of particular joy...) and highly pleasing local women of great beauty as well as Mozart (not national socialist enough..) or maybe Rabbi Loew and the Golem got him. Heydrich did not make it either, actually, when you think of it.

The magazine gave the most positive light to German rule over the Czechs and also fostered the German claims to the Czech lands over centuries. There is also a fair amount of SS related material in the magazine as well. I bought a fairly extensive run of these in Praha for seventy bucks at the end of the 1990s. I collect all publications of Volk u. Reich Verlag, if anyone out there has some they are tired of, actually.

The second work is the last review (marching formation...) of SS Oberjunker XXX, which I think was also published by the SS itself. I think Nordland Verlag may have been part of the SS, in fact, but I am not really sure. The piece: "Taten, Traum und tapferer Tod.." i.e. deeds, dreams, and heroic death is quite of the period. A fate shared by too many.

PS To their great credit, the Czechs take their militaria very seriously, be it of the Thirty Years War, the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Period, the Habsburgs, or the 20th century. See the reenactment of Austerlitz just now, a very impressive thing, to be sure. It is not all good soldier Sweik (sp) by any means.
