    SS collar tab

    Hi

I picked up this SS collar tab and presumed it was a fake, but it does seem well executed to me.

Any opinions would be warmly welcomed. Could you point out to me what is wrong with it as it would help with my education on this hazardous subject area!!

Thanks for looking and wishing you a Merry Christmas

          Felix,

Why is it not original? Ginger Bob asked for an explanation in his first post, I think we would all like to learn right from wrong, lets hear the reasons why its a fake.

Ok, Im sorry, I will give you my reasons. Please understand that they are also my personal opinions.

The shape of the runes are wrong. They are not made on top of text book underlagen. Im always very suspicious when I encounter sharp pointed ends of the runes. Also the thread are too thick and the runes look machine embroidered.

Also the runes are not symetrical, which nearly all officer tabs are. Compare with the BeVo ss runes that are tilted. Officers very very selldom are.

The backing is not correct. It should be the typical one encountered. Also the collar tab has fake ageing! All this toghether makes me very sure of that they or not original. I would not buy this tab unless its sold for $ 10.

            Cheers,

            Felix

              Felix,

Thanks for that, not being a collector of officer insignia, I am always keen to know whay constitutes a fake vs an original.

              regards

Excellent John. Thanks for the photos. The differences are easily noticeable between the two. I will keep them as a reference if you don't mind.

Thanks for all the help with this

In addition to all of Felix's observations, I would be concerned about the tag ends of the piping. They are not the least bit frayed.

Nice text book originals John Pic! Thats the style all hunters for original officer collar tabs should learn to recognise. Infact the enlisted embroi deredones follow the same shape and angle in most cases.

About the sharp cuts of the piping..yes I agree..its also a thing making them look new. Correct!
