Theres a huge book about Jochen Peiper that has a nice photo of an LAH officer in the field wearing a camo uniform with insignias. Collector rules didnt apply back then just because it wasnt seen often it doesnt mean it wasnt done and acceptable. Looking hard is an important factor of collecting if you want to improve your knowledge browsing picture books and photographs will answer many questions often asked here on these forums.Depending on opinions of people who werent there and may have only handled the tinyest fraction of materials compared to what existed is helpful but not the end all.

Sleeve Eagle on Camo Tunic

Hello all,
For what it is worth, my sense is that the factory applied eagles used on the earlier dot/oakleaf 44 tunics were standard black on white ones. However soldier applied eagles could vary. I would note that Volume 3 of the Beaver series shows a cotton-rayon dot 44 tunic with SS runes and unterscharfuhrer tab and a tropical bevo sleeve eagle (with fairly solid provenance it would seem). Clearly soldier-done and not factory applied. I have also owned one HBT dot 44 tunic with tropical sleeve eagle and rottenfuhrer chevron - hand sewn and again (IMHO) soldier-done.
