    Cap eagle Germanske SS Norge

On behalf of a good friend of mine i would like some opinions on this arm eagle pertaining to be a eagle from Germanic SS Norway.

Could this eagle even be a prototype of early or late model? Or maybe been made for another unit? Or even a copy? The latter is somehow dubious because it feels and looks like the real thing.

Any serious comments are truly appreciated

To me this one looks too much like its trying to emulate German style embroidery. The few real examples I have seen of this bird have all had a much looser construction style.

I have this type in my 'mistakes' box, and believe it to be post war production. I have yest to see a believable Norge eagle in bullion and all the originals I have seen, for the sleeve, are machine embroidered, and for the cap in BeVo.

I agree here with BOB, there was also a very good thread on the german daggers forum some time ago relating to this type of insignia.

              -

Looks like the fakes a guy named Slipstone or Splitstone sold in the early 80s.

                  GSSN arm eagle

                  Hi,

I am not collecting NS items so I have verified with some other collectors as well and the eagle posted by Øyvind is an original rare NS eagle, but not made for GSSN. This eagle is made with gold bullion. As far as I know this was used on NS political uniforms. For example would a minister use a badge with this eagle and wreath of some kind. If you were allowed to use the political uniform but did not have a specific title/position you would just have the eagle pictured above. There are a lot of experienced NS collectors that can comment on this (please have me excused if I am off here).

Regarding the eagle posted by A.H. I would say I am very sceptical as well.

This is difficult area as we do not have to much documentation and limited pictures available. Even if we have pictures it is often difficult to spot the exact pattern of the eagle if someone was actually using a bullion version. I have enclosed a pretty OK picture from the Norwegian SS day in 1943 showing the machine woven eagle. The picture is from a period brochure. Maybe someone had a special eagle made, most unlikely, but possible, finding a period picture of such..................... would be very interesting.

You can by a OK re-pro bullion eagle similar (not 100% similar) to the one in question here fore USD 25:

I read in post 6 that there was a tread on the issue in the German daggers forum. I have not been able to find this. If someone could post a link or PM such to me I would be very glad.

Have a nice Christmas and hope you all get some nice gifts from the estand.....

Like Bob, this was in a junk box but, where I found this thread with a similar bird, I didn't think it would hurt to throw it up. Paper backing on the reverse...
