    WSS Officer's Cap

I am posting this cap for a friend who would like to get some opinions on it. Let me know what you think, based on the photos.

    Thanks, Doug

                    die Schatten vergangener Jahre

The specimen here is, in my opinion, typical of the fakes of the 1950s and 1960s. Surely of the latter decade. I am sure that these were made by those who made them prior to 1945; but somewhat cheaply and these now show signs of age as does this piece. Its signal features: the width of the velvet band, as well as the sweat band. Often these latter items were removed from older caps. The cap cover is a very felty kind of field grey, of modest quality doeskin, with a coloring that is slightly off. I owned a cap of this kind in 1968/9 with alu piping and a very narrow paper sweat band. It had a paper insignia RZM tag on the underside of the sweat band. These caps also "had-better-living-through-plastics" sweat shields, most of which have been torn out over the years. Sorry. Do look on the GDC site at Sayle F's staggering unissued cap by means of contrast. Or did he post it here? Viel Sammlerglueck.

                      Donald,

Thank you for the input. I will pass it along to my friend.

                      All the best, Doug

My first impression was that it was very pastel -- sort of "sea-foam" green.
