    W-SS mantel

    Hi all.

This is a waffen SS wachtmantel I purcased from a national guard officer collegue here in Norway. It is a bit torned inside but other than that it is in exelent condition. It is a private artillery greatcoat and with all correct markings and also the SS-BW (schutzstaffel bekleidungswerke) stamp inside.
I have thought about selling it for some time and I would like to get some suggestions about the pricing..
    Enjoy the pictures

I miss the belt at the back of the greatcoat and why are the buttons sewn trough the lining? I thought the buttons never were sewn trough it...

I believe I once was told by a ss collector that this was a late war produced greatcoat. Can that be the answar to your questions?
I have no doubts of the originality of the greatcoat!
                          Enjoy!!!

I learned from one of the biggest SS collectors that there was only ONE authentic SS-BW stencil format and if that is true, the one in this coat does not match the one he sent me.

I disagree, the one pictured in Beavers book is touted as the only form of SS-BW stamp by a highly respected SS collector. However when shown the EXACT same stamp in another tunic he was quick to use the "Fake" word. I am always skeptical of both sides of the spectrum both the long time experts and those willing to accept anything. In my opinion there is no way to be an expert in cloth there is only expertise gained in handling material and handling many different items. If the renound experts have only handled the items they own then sure,it becomes very easy to say something else is not good. I handled more than a few tunics that the only thing said about them was they were "fake", "no provenance" but in every aspect they were matches to originals sold by the top dealer in TR items. Being skeptical is good but saying something isnt good just to say it because the crown of expertise is placed upon your head is no longer and acceptible measure in this hobby.
I know of one whose collection is often refered to who once told a prospective buyer he didnt like a tunic I was selling because the shoulder boards were "two times smaller" than original boards, so I compaired them after to different original boards and saw no difference other than some are long and some are short, but none were two times bigger. The expert just fished for something negative to say and it was too bad because I respected him a great deal until I saw he was very coveting of the hobby and felt he had a corner on it as many like to feel for reasons one could exhaust themselves trying to figure out. That said there are alot of fake SS-BW marked items so you have to beware as it has been overdone to some extent.
