I'm not too sure about the skull.

I think it has the dotted bone and smooth eyes of the fake discussed here a couple of years back.

That type of fake has a distinctive weave pattern on the back and was often sewn to old cloth to hide this.

Clearer pix are needed.

The eagle and skull certainly don't look like they belong together. The eagle is bright white while the skull has some age.

Robin, I see the similarities with the one you posted (shown here on the left), but I think it might be more like the one on the right, which I believe to be original.

the two other skulls are more like holes that form them, as well as thinner, this skull is very nice in a silver thread heres a better shot I hope

These are better pictures. It isn't the same type as the fake I had in mind. I now also think the skull is OK. The eagle certainly is.

They are similar skulls, but the white one has a larger cranium protruding in the front, as well as in the back. There are many other suttle differences in the details. I seen my skull years ago in Angola's book it has a leaner profile, and more of a real skull. in my opinion.

The only differences I see (other than those caused by the different thread used on a different production lot) are the ones I would expect as normal variation of insignia produced on the same machine over time. Additionally, cloth insignia which has been sewn to a uniform and exposed to water and temperature changes while in use will change shape and general appearance over time, resulting in the differences which I believe you are seeing. Frequently, salty TKs will have "tightened up," closing the gaps between stitching which you see in unissued pieces and causing a "leaner" look than they originally had.
