Early SS Pictures

I captured a few pictures from the History Channel's series "The SS" that I thought others might be interested in. I have enhanced these as best I can.

These 2 show some very early SS men in caps that I have never seen before. Does anyone own one of these or have a better picture?

Here's an SS armband that has black trim around the white disk.

I'll share more later.

I'm guessing that this is an SA uniform. Looks like a homemade armband with a giant pip in the middle. And an unusual corduroy jacket.

post 1& 2

Curt,
I think some time ago Mr chapman also posted a similar picture on German daggers, as i remember there was talk that maybe they were motorised SA although the photo had been credited as early ss, one thing i notice on your photo that i had not noticed before is the guys on the right appears to be wearing collar patches, they appear much lighter than the shirts which would possible suggest not SS.
Mr Chapman is a member here so i am sure he has more insight that I.

The eagles on the caps in the first picture are identical to those used on the 1st pattern NSKK leather helmets.

Yes, Gary is right about this photo being posted on the German Dagger Forum. The post didn't really come to any concrete conclusions but the facts are:
Heinrich Hoffmann took this picture and at least one other of the same group.
The date was November 1925. This would fit with the flag being one of the original four DE standards as the commerative shield added to the standards in 1926 is not evident in this picture.
I have always found this picture interesting as the uniforms are quite curious and don't really match any other examples in photographs from this period.
The field caps worn unusually with chinstraps, the light brown collar patches as noted by Gary, the early motorised style eagle, plus the strange (possibly studio) background make this a fascinating picture. In the very early period most SS men wore black ties and this fact alone would make me think this picture does not feature an SS Honour guard.
I would be most interested in other observations.

The three men on the left are wearing button down collars (with huge buttons) and no collar tabs. The three on the right have collar tabs.

Can anyone tell what kind of tab the man on the far right is wearing?

Here's another shot.

I think we can rule out SS. It's sounds like the early Motorized SA theory makes the most sense. They probably converted all these caps.

...about the original four DE standards from 1923

The DE banner shown in the posted photo seems to have a solid
white center, rather than an embroidered white center which only
the first four DE banners had as presented in Jan 1923. Likewise,
one of the first four DE banners was captured by the Munich
Police in the summer of 1923 and thus didn't have the 9 Nov 1923
badge added to same - this banner is in my collection by the way,
and remains the only known surviving example of the first four
DE banners. I was also wondering what method was used to obtain
such a nice clear video photo of the DE standard off of TV?

I would like to see a picture of your banner. That must be worth a chunk of change!

As for my picture, I recorded the show on my Panasonic hard disk/DVD recorder, burned it to DVD, and used Ulead's DVD player on my PC to capture the photo. Then I used Adobe Photoshop to enhance it. I increased the resolution, brightened and sharpened it. I have been able to get very good TV captures this way.

Here is one from SPR:

The fellow with the 98k was also shown as an SS trooper in a different part of the movie?
Or, was he the dude they let go at the radar site?
Or both?

This is the soldier they let go earlier in the movie. The SS soldier was a different person.
