    Unusual WSS Winter Camo Cap

Anyone seen one of these before? I know next to nothing about camo but I like the look of the cap.
    Any thoughts?

My opinion is that it is most likely a post-war item, though it could - I suppose - be a wartime 'privately tailored' purchase. I think you would have a hard time selling it as original though.

IMO this piece is a post war item, the artificial fur looks like the material used by the east german army and police that they used for the winter hats.

Also, a authentic non reversible item in spring colors is unusual....They were generaly made with the autumn side exposed....there are of course exceptions. But the "rule" says "autumn side out"....

          Cheers

Interesting but I'm not impressed with it... definitely not authentic to the TR period IMHO.

As a point of interest, the current British Army slang for this style of headgear is a 'Dangerous Brian' hat. God alone knows why!

It may be a post war made one with original ss material made in Linderud waracademy in Norway. They made some different tunics-parkas with that kind of ss camo.

I agree that it could be original Waffen-SS camouflaged material. But I also agree that it would be reversible and if so, the autumn colors should be showing and not the spring colors. Also, why is the label sewn on so crooked? What is on that label?

Not totally true my dear colleague, the SS made winter parka's in spring colors.
Regarding the item discussed above: who know's? I would not buy it, but everything is possible.

Yes, I agree with Fred, there are examples of spring pattern parkas. Officers and some senior NCO had items like this made up privately. It is very difficult to authenticate "field made" items, thus ironically many such pieces get passed over as fakes. My only concern would be the "fur", it dosen't look right for the period, but again you can't be sure of the location of manufacture.
There is an example of this type in "Waffen-SS Uniforms in Colour" I think. I don't have it handy, but I will check later and get back to you.

Not if it is made of parka material which this looks like.

I have had shirts, jackets and trousers made of these materials, I think there may have been a lot left over.

Incidentally I have a spring parka on my site at the moment. She is a poor old girl a real Russian Front job but lovely none the less.

                            Yours, Guy.

                              Hi All
Page 26 "Waffen-SS Camouflage Uniforms and Post War Derivitives" by Daniel Petersen has a cap like this. I can't, obviously, vouch for its authenticity, but it is of the same basic cut, and matches a jacket with it, autumn side out.

                              Regards;
