Not listed in the 1934 edition which is online. You need to have someone check the 1938 edition Sadly I don't have it.

    Cheers, Ade.

      Franzius

Aforementioned is on p. 136 of the '36 rank list, as officer # 3248, but as an Obersturmfuehrer, with an April '36 DOR. He is listed on the RFSS staff, which is likely correct for the Wewelsburg. But the rank is wrong, I think. In the '38 list he made Hauptsturmfuehrer in January '37. This 1936 list is widely available in Germany, where I bought mine, in fact---Euros 58 and worth every cent. The -38 list is also widely had, but..... I just do not think this handwriting is of the period, actually, and I say this as a result of being a trained archivist in German manuscript holdings, as well as owning more than one German book of the era with many inscriptions, as well as property stamps. Library stamps in Germany of the era are very distinct, and I do not see this here. However, I am speculating. The question is qui bono? That is, there is a large profit in taking an ordinary book and embellishing it. I was just in Berlin over the weekend with one of my dealer colleagues (an East German who is very saavy) and he was regaling me with the avalanche of the most outlandish and hare-brained accounts that go with the least order and decoration, which are the embellished with faked and humped up awards documents, &c. All quite sad, but also all quite a response of supply and demand.

Wouldn't one expect the Schloss Wewelsburg to have a better Mein Kampf in its library than this lowly Volksausgabe?

I cannot speculate on this point above, which is germane. My sense from the German illustrated work on the Weweslburg would be that the library there was an academic, scholarly oriented affairs, with Nordic Rassenkunde, archaeology, Voelkerkunde of a Nazi bent, sort of stuff which I just saw for sale on the Kupfergraben in Berlin this weekend. There were some Nazi volumes on people of the tropics and jibberish like that. I badly overpaid for a set of Schlieffens Studien and one of Goebbels volumes. Wie dumm von mir. In any case, the bulk of the Wewelsburg volumes would have been different from the Nazi library that was supposed to be in every household of a Blockwart or of an NSBO Betriebszelle or Werksbibliothek of the Varta factory pi pa po----but maybe they had this cheapo type of thing, all the same. I do know the fine bindings were a central part of the regime's sense of handicrafts and I am sure that no expense was spared for the Handbibliothek of the scholars on the staff of what was also a think tank on race and the clap-trap ethno basis of the regime and the organization itself. But someone must know this fact much better than do I.

Hi Donald, thanks for checking the rank list for me. I think the fact he was not of that rank until 1937 is pretty damming for the book.

I too had wondered about the cheap edition of the book. I had tried to justify it in my own mind by thinking that maybe they had a few of these to give away to other organistions? I imagined that a HJ troop at the time would have been thrilled to be given the book from the libray of the castle and signed by a member of the staff there. Sadly I guess fakers too think like this

            Cheers, Ade.

Pretty weird. Considering Stevie the owner got it for about 30 euros. The Wewelsburg stampings were noteven played up in the sale of it.So in the long run, he didnt lose out.

Considering the price of Kampf in Germany, this is little to pay. I do not own one with this dust jacket so it is well worth Euros 30. All my sources of Nazi books in Germany have dried up. Viel Sammlerglueck.

What books are you looking for, I run into tons. Today I left a bunch of those large sized art portfolios from the Munich Art Show in a pile. Iam not at al into books but run into several variations of Mein Kampf with protective covers and Stadt Wappens on them. Iam not at all into books but if you want me to pick you some up , just PM me with what titles you are looking for.

Walter Franzius was an Education Officer at Wewelsburg. He is a well-known figure.

However, he had not reached Hauptsturmfuehrer in 1936.

His signature is shown in the book 'Himmler's Camelot', and his handwriting is nothing like that shown here.

Franzius was still alive in 1978.

This looks like a poor forgery to me.

                        Hi All,
I aquired two SS-Dienstalter Liste from a vet(through a local book dealer friend) along with 3 other books, and one of the list was marked to Wewelsburg, and looked nothing like the stamp in this book. By the way the Wewelsburg book also had a property of the 3rd US Army or the 3rd I.D. stamp inside, I can't remember which as I no longer have it. I had to sell it to buy some Christmas presents for my kids one year, and had to beg someone to buy it for $200 . I now have the name of the last person to buy it here somewhere, he paid $2500 for it.

Iam glad Stevie didnt get ripped off on the book by presence of the Wewelsburg Stamp. Thanks Robin, I was waiting for you to weigh in on this book. Out of curiousity, does anyone have an authentic Wewelsburg stamp inside a book?

Na du, Yes I read German. And Thank You for that great Wewelsburg read

But I do want to see some authentic, or proven authentic Wewelsburg stamps, in books or any other items . If I run into anything else I would like to know what to compare a fake to. At least by the guidelines of WAF.
