    Lah Serving Dish

    Hi All,

The LAH serving dish shown by Gary is one of 6 captured by the 1st Battalion the Worcestershire Regt in 1945. They were Regimental Property until sold about 8 years ago. I purchased 4 the other 2 were purchased separately and I have seen them appear on the UK market. They are maker marked KRUPP BERNDORF and dated '38.

    regards

    Mark

Hi Bob, very curious who Col. Heinz von Hungen was? Was he a US officer or German? If US how was he a US soldier with such a distinctly German name?
            Thanks

Incredible find (and in my own state, too!)

It's finds like this that get my blood flowing. Untouched, salty, 100% original vet bring-backs just saturated with that "been there" look and feel. IMHO it doesn't get much better than this.

              Awesome find!
              Congrats.
              Rob

Heinz von Hungen was a doctor in Modesto, California who died in the early 1990s. He was a medical officer in the US Army in Germany of the era 1946-1948. He had collected German militaria as a child in the 1930s, and had one of the larger collections here in Northern California. His great speciality was the uniforms of the German colonial troops, where he had real treasures. He lived through the black market period of the occupation of Germany as an US Army doctor, and told me of his experiences of same. I met him in the early-1970s and profited greatly from his genteel company and knowledge. He belonged to a group of old line collectors in the San Francisco area who had begun to collect imperial militaria before 1945, or shortly thereafter. The SS tunic in the possession of colleague Hritz I do recall while in the collection of Dr. von Hungen. I secured a wonderful earth brown SSTV side cap from him, which I then traded back to him at a later date. He and I traded material with great gusto and I sold him a white SS tunic for a Stabsarzt in the LAH as well as an open collar field grey uniform for the SS which I found devoid of badges in a flea market in Berlin in 1975....sic transit gloria mundi. I miss him greatly, and he was a person of great integrity and learning.
