    Used mostly by foreign units? Well, how come a strip of tropical eagles ends up in north of Europe? It is more likely that could happen in Italy. But one must remember that is really not common practice to use a tan eagle on continetal uniform.

    Why do we never see a M43 cap with the tropical insignias? Like the common tan BeVo skull?

    Its possible but not likely its an originally applied eagle. I would therefore be careful.

    But as always, the buyer decides.

        John's eagle is also a silver grey type IMO.Different types of thread were used some giving the illusion of a tropical eagle as they aged.

                JD,We must be using different photo programs.I am only at half saturation w/my edited version.Regardless,the thread make up has everything to do w/how these age.I'll stick with my own methods

                  First of all a lot of original grey eagles do go a light brown/tan colour with age and wear.

                  But I would not have a tropical eagle sewn to field grey cloth in my collection, sorry.

                  As an observation tropical eagles sewn to field grey cloth started to appear for sale when there grey counterparts became very expensive and very hard to get.

                  Regarding the black and white photo, sorry but you cannot tell if the eagles are tan or grey as its a black and white photo. Slight difference in the grey thread used for the weaving of these eagles even if its only a slight difference will look darker than others in black and white photos, it is also dependant on how the light reflects from these threads and many other variables as welli will post a photo later to illustrate this point

                    Hello Felix,

                    The eagle on my old tunic is a tropical eagle. It did not change color, nor was it ever reapplied, etc.

                    It is now in one of the finest collections in the USA, and the new owner is one of the best known west coast collector/dealers there is. His words to me (after I finally agreed to sell it to him) was that it was "one of the finest, original, Waffen-SS NCO's tunics he had seen in almost a decade".

                      The eagle which started this thread and the one on the tunic sure look like tropicals to me, but it is true that soiling can fool you initially.

                      Here is one of my BeVo pieces which, from the front looks like it could be a tropical due to the discoloration from dirt and staining. However, from the back you can see that it is actually a gray one.
