Waffen SS Sturmfuehrer Collar Tab Set

I believe these may have been posted before, but I can't find the thread.

Does anyone have any problems with them (besides what appear to be original shoulder board pips used on the rank tab)?

One brief observation ... I really dislike the edges of the runes, the bullion itself looks tight, but the edge looks like a sawblade.

That is a very correct observation based on the photo, but that is simply a shortcoming of the photo, not the tab. It looks to me as if the original photo may have been too dark and it was then digitally brightened (or the contrast was increased) to lighten the image. As a result, the varied shine of the bullion near the edges of the runes has created the appearance of an uneven edge. However, I have handled these tabs and I can tell you that the edges of the runes are actually quite clean and straight, in spite of what the photo would have you believe.

Here are some better scans of this set. Perhaps these will provide the detail necessary for the experts to make some conclusions.

I welcome all thoughts and opinions!

          Thanks,
          Brad

Photography and scanning can be a 2-edged sword: it can zoom in close and find details you cannot see with the naked eye, or it can distort details and make something look bad. These are great tools but one must be careful when evaluating their results.

Well, I would rate this as an original pair of late war SS officer collar tabs. Runes have the correct shape. Only strange thing is that the backing of the rank tab totally matches the rune tab. But it happens. It also means that its very likely manufactured for the same tunic. Thats matching.

They look OK to me, regarding the pips there are plenty of wartime photos showing such pip sizes in use.

one question is the patch damaged at one end? and i notice grey cloth has that been added to repair it? or is it remnants of the collar material

                cheers

The material you refer to near the 'pigtail' of the bullion piping on the runic tab is remnants of the collar material, not a repair made to damage. There is, however, damage to the bullion on the opposite bottom corner.
