Hello Ron. I am not a big specialist, but I think that shuma tunic must have a special arm badge, collar patches close to ss and not a breast eagle.

Your tunic looks like standart summer late war army uniform, but only with shuma shoulders boards.

Ron, 100% original tunic which I have seen was of police m42 model with typical shuma collar tabs, arm badge and with shoulders boards like on your tunic.

I agree with Sergey, slip on Shuma shoulderboards do not a Shuma tunic make..

Should have a bevo sleeve patch with the Schuma swastika surrounded by an oakleaf wreath for sure, not the Army breast eagle. On another forum thread about Hitler's wartime jacket, that only units of the Wehrmacht (Armed Forces) were allowed to wear the National Emblem (eagle, wreath and swastika) on their chest above the pocket. Since the SS and others were political units and not members of the Wehrmacht, they had to wear their National Emblems elsewhere, most likely on the sleeve. You have a nice Army summer weight reed-green HBT tunic there that just needs a nice pair of enlisted slip on shoulder straps to restore it. You can always tuck the Schuma shoulder straps away as part of an insignia collection and find a sleeve patch to go with it.

Thanks For Input,and I Agree With You That This Is Army Tunic,but Can Say With Out Any Hesitation That Tunic Was Brought Back As Is.now It Is Certainly Possible That The Vet Switched Them,but Doubtful.my Thoughts Were That As The Army Moved Through These Areas And Left ,they Put Alm0st Any Body In These Units,regardless Of Branch Of Service And Used Whatever Equipment Or Uniforms Available,especially In The Pre 44 Era. My Thoughts Were To Show,what I Believe A Field Tunic Adapted To A Special Need,i Bow To The Forums Expertise. With Respect Ron

In this area of collecting, as well as others I'm sure, there are always the stories and tall tales. But if you collect this stuff you must concentrate on the artifact and ensure that it is the genuine article. If it is, then the story connected with it is icing on the cake. If the article isn't authentic, then it's just another fairy tale made up to sell a reproduction as real. Buy the artifact, not the story. Anything or anybody could have messed around with this tunic from the end of the war until now. We're just saying that this is not the 'classic' Schuma police tunic; the shoulder straps do not belong on it. To be considered a Schuma tunic would require the proper insignia, and not just the straps.

I picked up a Fire Police uniform once and what appeared to be the cap that went along with it. It was brought back as is and stuck into a closet. The trousers were not for the tunic and the cap was for some veteran organization that trained cavalry horses. There were all sorts of pins, badges and medals attached everywhere to the tunic. The veteran just stuck them on as he found them. He put a pair of blue trousers with the tunic (but they were not Fire Police) and the dark-blue cap (as described). It sat in the closet for years just like that. It wasn't correct, as far as what the tunic and uniform should have looked like, but that is the way it came back to the States. So I understand exactly what you're saying.

I hope this helps you to understand where we are coming from. No disrespect meant. We are using our collective knowledge and experience and telling you what we know to be true in accordance with reference books and hands on experience.

I agree with the "Schuma straps do not a Schuma tunic make". However having seen all sorts of stuff swapped over by various UK vets and/or their kids it wouldn't surprise me to find that somewhere the same vet had a loose pair of Heer straps. The usual things swapped are straps,ribbons and belts & buckles.

Original tunic non-the-less.
