                  Wunderbar!

Yet more astonishing images. The Kubelwagen ala 1934 with the N nomenclature must be some kind of signals vehicle for command and control of Allgem. SS units. But I cannot figure out which unit. Sta. 23 was in Beuthen in Oberschlesien, now part of Poland. Was this unit in Oberabschnitt Ost in the summer of 1934? I will leave this issue to colleague Chapman who has more documentary resources on this score than do I. The images with the LAH in helmets are likely from the Tannenberg monument in East Prussia and Generalfeldmarschall v. Hindenburg funeral in August 1934. Many thanks for all this remarkable imagery.

More great pictures! Standarte 23, which was in Oppeln at this time, came under Suedost. It moved to Beuthen in 1938. At this period I think the motor and signals units were attached to standarten and this picture bears that out. It was a couple of years later that the components were organised as a separate structure. The image of the vehicle is excellent and rare.
The close-up of the hand painted escutcheons for the Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler are worth the price of admission alone. I agree that it is the v. Hindenburg funeral.

I think Sepp needs a smaller helmet or a bigger head

Apropos Oppeln to Beuthen in Schlesien/Oberschlesien, do you have a secondary source on the various transfers of HQs? Or do you use the DAL's? I have the SHAEF volume as well as a photocopy of a RFSS document from 1938 that illustrates some of this to-ing and fro-ing in "Main" or the Oberaschnitt in which Wuerzburg would have been in 1938 or so. The number of changes was quite striking, really. Thanks for the useful insights to go with these pictures. What for the Faustian bargain to be able to lift each cap of these mens' heads and examine same. Sapere aude!

The images of the early LAH transitional helmets are true revelations...the best I have ever seen. I do hope that you have more of the same tucked away in these wonderful albums.

                          Looking forward to more photos.

                          Cheers,

                            Dear Mr. Abenheim,
For most of the early organisational listings I rely on the various SS-Personalbefehl promotion listings as they are so conveniently dated and grouped. They are a goldmine of information. The SS statistical yearbook is of help but not before 1937. There are also a number of reports from the individual Oberabschnitte that gave regular updates on their strength and components.
                            Sincerely,
                            Derek

Dear Colleague, thank you for all of this. Might I kindly ask you to post one or two pages from the Personalbefehl promotion lists. I know how this kind of thing operated in other organizations, but I confess I have not seen same for the Allgemeine SS. many thanks, DA
