ok guys I snuck a few in before bed (more tomorrow) Almost all the pics have "F. Baer München" embossed in lower right corner. Can anyone give me any good intel on Herr Bauer? Ive seen many of his photos in SS calendars etc Also if you can see well enough boith Heinrich & sepp wear the TK honor ring...more tomorrow! Rich

            Thanks Richard,

The "Ost" blow-up explains Dietrich's presence, as he was the head of Oberabschnitte Ost. Thank you for the other enlargements and the super informal shot of HH and SD.
Bauer was a photographer based in Munich and was to the SS and Himmler what Hoffmann was to Hitler and the NSDAP.
The chap in the first picture whose cufftitle could give us a clue is not the one directly behind Himmler with the blurred title but slightly further back.
Now we have the date all we need is the location within OA-Ost.

            Derek

If the "Ost" blow-up is from the same set of pictures that would explain Dietrich's presence, as he was the head of Oberabschnitte Ost. Thank you for the other enlargements. Most likely. It was and is not especially far from Berlin. Superb images and wonderful analysis. Bravo. Oberabschnitt Ost did not endure as an entity, however, did it not? It was later broken up into other areas, I think. The growth of the Allgemeine SS in the era 1934-1939 was considerable. I cannot recall when the other Oberabschnitte evolve in this part of what was Prussia. However, I do believe this collar badge and Frankfurt/Oder were wholly germane for this moment in 1934, which judging from the foliage and climate is less likely to have been April and more into later spring and summer. The town is really quite close to B'ln, perhaps 100 kms or so. I have passed through it often on the train to Warsaw and vice versa. Today it stands on the border with Poland, which it most assuredly was not when these images were made. I wonder if this "Schuetzenhaus" endures today?

Now what year did the SS switch to the full jaw tk? Most of the pics show the full jaw w/ early cap adler...no sight of the later version but some have jawless TK & early adler....until weds night! These pics are awesome! Do you have photo editing software so you can crop the pics to show the insignia without losing resolution?

                              Richard,
Are you sure it's N23 and not M23? It is much more likely that they belong to a Motorstaffel, I can't think what "N' would be.
