Wss panzer board for untersturmfuhrer may have had a cypher

Hello, may I please get this WSS panzer shoulder board looked at? It appears to have a shadow of an LSSAH cypher on the top. Thanks

I disagree, it has every chance of being both original and typical of a removed field worn sew-in strap.

When an officer had a cipher or number on his strap and it was removed because they were in a combat zone. This is what they look like depending on how long the cipher was there before it was removed.

The point is that no one pays any extra for a strap showing removed cipher or numbers. They sell for the same price as one that has never had a cipher. Now if the cipher was still on the strap then that is when the strap is worth more. However, the question is always when was the cipher or numbers put on the strap

Don't ever forget that it might have had a fake cypher in its place which was removed at one point (not to forget the fake aging)...

But what would you gain ? the fact that it has had a cipher only adds a dissscussion/ debatable feature to the board. What someone is paying for is the fact that it is an original SS officers shoulder board

Original cipher or fake cipher it does not matter. No one is going to pay more because there was a cipher and it is now removed. And even if it had a real cipher on it, how much premium should you pay unless there is a beyond doubt, water tight provenance. It is not hard to put a cipher on a shoulder-board and it is not that hard to take one off. Originals with a removed cipher and honest combat soiling look like the one that started this thread. Yes such soiling can be faked but what do you gain price-wise for all the extra trouble and work ?

Lighting when the images were taken also play a part in how something is perceived and how dark the soiling looks in a photo. How do these look when the photo is taken outside in natural light ?

And for me, I see nothing that screams it is not a good one,
