    Thoughts on these Collar Tabs

    All:

I don't collect German militaria, but was recently offered these by a fellow who claims that they were brought back by his dad from Europe at the end of WW2. These photos are from him, so I have not seen them in person. Based on these pictures, I'd appreciate any thoughts you may have on these.

    Thanks

    Dave

      Hmmm...
Based on those pics, I can't see anything I DON'T like about them. which is odd, as those are very rare tabs and most I see are usually blatantly fake. ( I have tried to buy 2 pair already from well known dealers and both were no good, so I am still looking for good ones)

I would still like to see better detail to the bullion that was washed out by the flash, but proportionally, and construction-wise they look good to me.

Can you get them from the guy and either scan them or take a better daylight photo? I'd also hit them with a UV light, as 'in hand' examination of this stuff is really critical.

Perhaps you might want to view the close up collar tabs on the Georg Keppler uniform shown on the thread "name that SS officer tunic" posted by tgn for a comparison

IMHO those are the genuine article. Some better shots of the bullion details would help being absolutely sure but they look 100% to me.

I'm not so sure. The bullion edging looks a bit too wide to me. They are very good, but from the photos I wouldn't be 100% happy. More details pictures would have helped, if the chap has any others available.

Thanks all - Anyone have a clue what would be a reasonable "buy" price for these would be? I stopped collecting German back in 1993 so my prices are a bit "outdated." I'm at the point now where I think I can get them from the guy depending on the price I offer him. Thanks for your help!

                Dave.

If these are real, and you get them for less than $1000, you've got a bargain.

I agree with you Robin... these do need to be looked at more closely... I wasn't wearing my glasses when I looked the first time and was taken in by the really nice details on the acorns. But I've recently seen a pair of SS-Brigadefuhrer collar tabs that weren't original that had the same nice details in the acorns - nice and tight. Of course they were being sold as originals for $1,250. Last April I think that Bill Shea had an SS-Obergruppenfuhrer insignia grouping with collar tabs and sewn in shoulder boards for $7,000. He's usually a bit high on stuff but still, if NAVY FCO can get these for $1,000 it would certainly be a coup - if they are indeed authentic. I've got a nice close up photograph of the pair of SS-Obergruppenfuhrer collar tabs from the Karl Demelhuber insignia grouping that I can use to compare with. So tonight I'll do that and give another assessment of these.

                    NavyFCO,

Here are my tabs..take a look at them and compare. From the pics you have and not having these in hand, I do like them. As for price..heck..if you can get them anywhere under 4k, your doing ok..real ones very rarely come up for sale.

Very nice Greg. These collar tabs (SS Generals) are really nice and detailed. It's always good to have an original pair to compare things with... but that's not always the case with these -- tough to get real ones.

Guys - Thanks for all the opinions. I'm trying to get them in hand to get better pictures of them. We'll see. The owner of them is not a collector, and he actually doesn't like the whole concept behind them (with regard to war, etc.) which is the reason he contacted me initially.

                        Thanks again for everything!

                          Tabs

They do look pretty good , I have had a few pair of high ranking insignia and these seem to look OK To me , material and construction. I am making this assessment from pics mind you.
