    SS Eagle question

    Hi,

I'm new to this forum and i'm trying to find out some information about a strip of SS Eagle sleeve badges i have inherited from my grandfather.

The strip has been cut from a roll of unused eagles and there are 3 badges on it. The main question i have is regarding the serial numbers stuck to the reverse of the strip.

The are various insignia on each sticker such as 'Reichszeugmeisterei der NSDAP' the RZM and SS logos, 'Hersteller :' and a number that looks like it refers to something rather than just a numerical sequence since the numbers do not foloow sequentially.

    the numbers are : C No 251168
    C No 250795
    C No 251136

the above are all printed but each is stamped '352'

    Any info would be appreciated
    thanks

    Hi Rob;

The RZM tag was essentially a tax stamp. The higher the alphabetical letter, the more expensive it was. Generally machine embroidered, or BeVo type eagles carried an "A" series tag so unless you're talking about something else, that puzzles me as to why the tags are 'C' and not 'A'. It's not impossible to have had the wrong tags attached. The othe puzzling aspect for me is if the 'strip' were cut from the roll, then generally the numbers (the numbers that are on what looks like a musical staff) are sequentially numbered. The 'stamped' number, 352, is the manufacturers identification code. 'Reichszeugmeisterei der NSDAP was in a nutshell the organization responsible for overseeing and controlling all aspects of design and manufacture. 'Hersteller' essentially equates to 'Manufacturer'. It would be great to see some pictures of your items.
    Best regards,

    Tony

      Hi Tony,

thanks for your reply, there a large A to the left of the sticker, i forgot to mention that! The musical score bit has 'No 251168' on it and to the left of that is the letter C. So that should clear your confusion up.

i was really wondereing if the numbers were prehaps the numbers of recepients of the badges but i wouldn't have thought they were special enough to be awarded to individual soldiers.

But yes it is strange that the numbers do not run in sequence, unless the were stuck on the eagles from a pile of stickers.

I think the eagles were from Italy or North Africa which is where my grandfather fought.

      Thanks again

      Rob

I presume these are tropical eagles, I have seen long strips of such and some numbers can be in sequence and some strips I have seen they are not, tony covered most of it in his reply I think, the A4 number is the makers code the lower number and letter is the tag number the large number is the tax code,
        cheers,
        gary
