First off, great pictures!! I know that Heer M36 and M40 tunics were issued to the SS as the SS did not start producing their own tunics until mid 1942. That is when the configuration of the tunics changed between the SS and the Heer. This occurred with the M42 and M43 models where the SS used a 5 button front and two hole belt hook provision while the Heer used a 6 button system and three hole belt hook provision. I know there were exceptions, but that was "unusual" as I originally stated. Just my opinion... The M42 you pictured is a 5 button front and not like the tunic that is the subject of this thread. Although I cannot say for sure, the M43 picture appears that it may be 6 button, but I am extrapolating that on where the 6th button should be.
