Yes, these maps are very good as well, especially for more basic info, but such small villages as Filipowo are only mentioned on the high detailed maps as the one from Baum. I have tried to save some pictures from the Winkler website, but to no avail. Is there someone who knows to save and post them?

Here are some photos from the Sammelfriedhof of Charkow, where Walter Tessmann is buried. They come, as comes the text, from the official website of the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge:

'Für den östlichen Bereich der Ukraine stellte die Gebietsverwaltung Charkow ein etwa 5 Hektar großes Gelände für den Bau eines Sammelfriedhofs zur Verfügung. Er wird einmal etwa 40.000 deutsche Gefallene aufnehmen und liegt am Stadtring von Charkow innerhalb des neuen 17. Zivilfriedhofs. Die etwa dreieckig geschnittene Fläche hat eine Neigung von bis zu 20%.

Der Besucher betritt den Friedhof durch ein schlichtes Eingangsgebäude. Ein gepflasterter Weg führt den Hang entlang, ansteigend zum zentralen Gedenkplatz. Talseitig wird der Platz durch eine Stützmauer aus Naturstein begrenzt, auf der ein kräftiges Kreuz aus Granit steht. Die Namen und Daten der Toten sind auf Granitstelen verewigt, die am Rande des jeweiligen Einbettungsblockes aufgestellt sind. Die mit Rasen eingegrünte Belegungsfläche wird mit steinernen Symbolkreuzgruppen betont.

Im. Februar 1998 weihte der damalige Bundespräsident Roman Herzog während eines Staatsbesuches diesen Soldatenfriedhof ein. Bislang haben unsere Mitarbeiter hier etwa 29 000 Gefallene eingebettet.'

Thanks for all the addition superb material. The contemporary pictures of the Soldatenfriedhof are very interesting. Granted that these images are from the spring of 1943, I wonder what remained of these men by the fall of the same year, granted the combat that was presently to transpire in this Frontabschnitt. There is always great virtue, especially in our own violent and troubled time, to confront the full reality of our interest without falsche Glorie. Sapere aude and thanks to colleagues for excellent interventions.

2. Open any image-editing program (such as Paint, Photoshop, etc)

Great photos. Does anyone have genuine examples of the type of runes tab worn by the NCO? They appear to be smaller, thicker and more forward sloping than the other runes in the photo.
