    ss officer sleeve eagle

I bought a small convolut from a German Wiking veteran with his Wiking CT, SS Belt buckle, his medals and other things.
In this convolut was also his ss sleeve eagle. I like to have opinions about this SS sleeve eagle because it seems other then the others I saw in the past. All the other stuff was 100 % original, therefore this ss eagle must also be good, but I like to have opinions on this one..

    thanks
    Luc

Well, my opinion on the eagle is worthless since I know nothing, but I do have one strong opinion regarding this haul, in reference to another recent thread - that THIS is the way I'd like to find SS insignia - straight from a Wiking vet!

Thanks for your reaction. Here is a picture of the complete convolut. All the rest is 100 % good. The ss EM/NCO'S leather belt is marked with the ss rune and RZM logo.

It is strange that there is no reaction on the eagle. This means it will definitely be not a textbook eagle, but I was hoping that someone had the same in his collection and could give me more information.

Congratulations, to get that kind of group from a veteran is something most collectors probably won't get to experience.

I guess that even material from vets can be suspect but you'd assume that if the person in question seemed on the level and all the other items are good, then the eagle isn't at fault, it'd be the textbook that might need to be expanded.

Like I said, my opinion's useless... but I do like the concept of sourcing items direct from the vets.

              Hey Luc!

              Great catch!

The eagle looks good to me.

Im sorry I havent replied, Ive been scattered. In 1988 I had an LAH officers tunic which regretfully I sold off, with the same type eagle. I felt the tunic was 100% original period but some collector who first got hold of it damaged the cuffband and tabs badly. I clearly remember the little beak on the eagle was exactly like yours.

                  Hoheitszeichen...??

I defer to my colleague above, but I would say two things: firstly, there are many pieces of authentic, albeit inexpensive (that is, for the person who purchased it...) hand embroidery that look just like this from the III. Reich. I am thinking of cap badges, actually; secondly, the Hakenkreuz is well rendered, even if the rest of the badge is a little less than what some associate with this kind of Stickerei. For myself, I always look closely at how this most important symbol of the regime was rendered.

Hi Luc, I like the back of the eagle, however the pattern is none that I've seen before. I'll yield to Gary and John they seem to have seen it in the past. Since Wiking had Foreign regiments ( Nordland and Westland) it may not be a german made officers sleeve eagle but one of local origin. Sonny
