I recently aquired a pair of green ribbon type (not printed) sleeve rank bars for a Oberscharfuhrer. They are affixed to a black felt backing. Are they suppose to have the backing or sewn directly to the uniform and both sleeves? Also if you can point me in the direction of other sites where I can view more examples/info. I am also looking for pics of camo clothing with the rank attached. Thanks

Camo sleeve rank

Hi,
yes there are printed and embroidered versions and variations among these versions. It was meant to be worn on the left upper sleeve, though period pictures show Wassen SS troops wearing that insignia on both sides of the sleeves. The patch you describe is the "later" version, early in the war they used white stripes and another systems. The later version is also the version that was worn by both, the army and waffen ss. The patch was simply sewn to the item.
Hope this helps...
Cheers

Thanks guys, I'me glad you like them.
The person in question is known for this type of behaviour apparently (but I didn't find that out till after he knocked me). I suppose I should have had an inkling as he put aside a pair of SS panzer trousers with me and shook on the deal. Then 3 months later when he was supposed to pay me he reneged and bought a pair from someone else. Unfortunately as we know the field of SS collecting is rife with these sorts of sado's. Champagne taste, brown ale money I think they call it.
Anyway I shall now instigate proceedings to get these back and if I do will offer them here. Last thing I heard payment had gone missing in the post .
Thanks again for your kind words chaps.
Yours, Guy.
