    Dutch volunteers

After my question to Mr. Rygaard about photos of Dutch volunteers in his collection, he adviced me to start a new thread about this topic. I will start with an interesting picture, and perhaps we can turn this into a thread about the Dutch volunteers in general.

The photo below shows Jan Hemelaar, who volunteered for the Dutch Legion and ended up in the 8th coy of the 48th regiment "General Seyffardt". He was captured by the Russians during the retreat from Narwa at the end of July, 1944, and spent seven years in captivity before returning to Holland in 1951. It is interesting to see the horizontal Wolfsangel collar tab in combination with a M42 helmet. This photo was most probably made in 1943, just before the official disbandment of the Legion.

    All the best,

    Cees

Good job cees! Well after a little searching here on this lovely fathers day I found a few at least (more to follow) here you find a young dutch volunteer with VERY bizare collar tabs. Homemade (?) "wolfsangle" tab. Please see sleeve where you can see the SS sleeve eagle has been removed? A very intresting shot indeed.

here is a very nice clear view of the "wolfsangle" tab! This is a small "soldbuch" style photo which I have enlarged a bit so Im hoping it's not too blurry! Id like to see others posting pics here! And once again sorry for the copy protection but as long as we have dishonest people preying on the good will of others we cant be too careful!

What kind of pin has the Dutch SS man on his breastpocket? Is it a pin from the NSB, NJS or the VERDINASO ?

Thank you for posting these other photos Richard! The first one is very interesting indeed, and it looks like he is wearing a locally produced collar tab. For what about the second picture, I am not really sure. It might be just a normal collar tab with the runes, as there seems to be a small narrow black line dividing both white parts.

Here is another Dutch volunteer. He served in the Dutch Legion and eventually in the 8./48., before ending up in Russian captivity. I have quite some photos showing Dutch volunteers, but I am sure that some other members might chime in here as well.

            With all the best,

            Cees

P.S. Stijn, I do not know what kind of badge he is wearing. Some other members, perhaps?

I think it is a WHW tinnie. Can't seem to find a picture of one right now but it is part of a series of 3 different ones.

Re the second photo, I'm with Cees - 99% sure that's a normal rune tab and the angle makes it look like to could be a very large w.angel.

It looks like a Polizei-tag badge.
