I will get some pictures of the interior of the flap in the morning.

Hi Mark, not sure if you got my email, been having problems with it recently. I get the impression that this cap might have been dyed black at some stage, it seems very patchy and has a blue-ish tint to it.

Trying for opinions one last time...

A collector from WA lives near me. He is going to look at it and give his opinion. I will ask him to post it here - good or bad.

                      Thanks.

Hi Mark, for what you paid for the cap all those years ago, the insignia alone has been a good investment.

I am of the same opinion as Ben, original insignia on a suspect dyed black cap.

                        Cheers, Ade.

Marc, sorry it took me a while to get back to you about this cap.
The cap most definately appears to be dyed black, as BENVK stated. The uneven appearance of the black whipcord and the blue-tinted fuzziness clinging to the whipcord material make that very clear in these photographs.
I believe I see a tinge of green beneath that black dye job.....
Also the interior liner (see pic#9) front vertical seam has been opened at some time, probably to facilitate the attachment of theis trapezoid.
At least the trap is real and has some value.
                          Jerry

                              hat

Just wanted to update this thread with the fact that I went over to Mark’s house and examined this cap in hand. What I observed was that the cap was made with many of the features one finds in many original M43 caps including the following: correct stitch line for the internal sweat band, the correct method of attachment for the pull down loops, artificial silk liner, original trapezoid, , period thread that bound the cap together. There was no bias material in the ear flap interior seam The cap appears to have been dropped into a dye vat to make it black and you can even see this on the back ground of the trap. Most unusual was the lack of structure in the bill. It felt like it was stuffed with broken material and I could not detect any cardboard material what so ever and therefore it had nothing left to shape the bill. I told Mark that it had 80% of the characteristics of what I would look for in an original hat with the bill and the dyeing being the unknown factors I cannot explain....

                                SS cap

                                Well,

The comments are below. Any more are welcome. I am considering putting this on estand. Any input good or bad is appreciated. If I do sell this I want to be as accurate as possible.

What would you consider a fair price for this cap?

                                Mark Mac
