You can see on these covers the very thin fragile thread that is the tell tail of original covers.
The key to vintage items be it caps uniforms covers lies in the thread.
New made copies can never get it right.
Learn sewing and you win half the battle.
I see on numerous threads here stumble on construction issues.
This pair of covers if studied should help unlock the sewing methods used 80 odd years ago

Actually the threads are quite thick, not thin at all, because they are a linen or a linen/cotton mix that is too fragile to make thinner, such as a 5 or 6 cord which is more commonly used in sewing. Note the coarse and very visible twist of the thread in the pictures relative to the fine, thin threads in your (or your wife's) sewing box.
