The pattern is good. The brown is the same as the sleeve eagle discussed recently and dismissed as dyed by some. Personally I know these and green insignia have turned up from good sources … the more I see the more it makes me worry though.

The darkness of the Totenkopf would almost defeat the purpose of wearing it?
May have been a bungled dye lot and the manufacturer ran a few lots to see how they would come out?
As Ian states the design and composition outside of colour are good

Interesting, it really is just like that brown bird. IMO not a dye job on either.

I believe this has been dyed.
It's the same colour both sides, It's not a dirty tropical.
I also believe this is not the same colour as the eagle. . .
Too many red flags for me.
But I feel this is a prime example as a recent attempt to dye it.
The eagle is a true colour brown, this isn't which show it's not easy to dye
