                Its a B/W picture. . .
Those gloves could be any colour or a present from home

                      What is 'textbook' anyway?

It's how uniforms were worn following the rules.
Everything worn, not following the rules, is 'non-textbook'.
In modern days it would be accepted as 'non-original' and as 'never-existed' and therefor worthless. 'Textbook' is a dangerous word. For that reason, good items were oftenly burned and even trown away...

Not if they have photographic evidence to back them up. Very difficult to tell if something is okay if completely out of the ordinary with nothing like these photos (and a number of other threads), to suggest otherwise.
