SS Cap Eagle - Opinions Please

    Hello All,
I picked up this cap eagle approximately 40 years ago. I took a number of pictures with and without a flash. I apologize if they seem repetitive, however some show better detail in areas than others. If you look closely, there appears to be remnants of silver? I'm not sure. I would appreciate any information anyone can provide me.

    Thanks for looking!

I agree, from a very worn die or maybe a bad stamp.

          Or maybe corrosion?

Yes, could be. Definitely an original 3 pin zinc Assmann bird.

I believe corrosion is playing a part.

Thank you everyone for your help. It is greatly appreciated.

As it has been said and I agree, this is an original late war Assmann eagle that just has, or had a good amount of corrosion that took away some of the surface details. This could have happened at any point in time since 1945, but at some point, it was exposed to moisture or was stored in a damp environment that caused this to happen. Hard to say if it is still active without knowing how it is being stored now, but from my experience, once a corroded piece has been put in a dry place, (especially a dehumidified room), the corrosion will usually soon stop, but what has been done is permanent. I have a couple of pieces that are similar and I have never cleaned them, but have had them stored in a dehumidified room for almost 20 years and they have not changed at all since I bought them, even with the white oxidation left as is. So, hopefully you have a dry place to keep it.
