Don't need to say sorry, I really appreciate attention to a thread and pursuit for a truth. It is clear, that checking by a pictures it very complex. Thanks for a last sample, extremely handy.
For me looks same. Played a bit with angles, to make this mentioned place more visible.
Thank you for the kind words, and yes, by pictures alone, this can sometimes be tricky, especially considering how good some of the fakes are. I'm glad that we were able to finally arrive at the truth, which is all that ever matters. This time, I can say with absolute certainty that your skull is authentic.
Thanks again for the last two photos that confirm everything.
I was contacted privately by a member here who asked me about the weight of the skull to determine the originality. The skull that started the thread is 7g according to the person who sold it.
I have never been a fan of using weight to determine the authenticity of cap insignia because with originals, (even two of the exact same variation and in similar condition), will often vary at least a gram or two. The only exception, is when an early type piece is so heavy that you can feel the difference in your hand, in which case you usually know that this is a major red flag.
However, 7 grams is certainly in line with the proper weight for an original of this type of skull.
For sure it is important for cartridge calibration (MM or MC).
I have no idea how helpfull it is to proof orginality of skulls.
But I know excellent skull expert on this forum that uses this type of measurment.
By the way as usual: a lot had to change to keep everything old.

we may get an "An Inconvenient Truth" from here.
Here are some examples dug up on different battlefields, one of the 5th SS Panzer Division Wiking the other of the 3rd SS Panzer Division Totenkopf
wow , both weigh (in grams) the same, is it a coincidence or is a FACT????
and a free bonus track
FACT all those with teeth marked on the back have a similarity of "noses" ,form a triangle in the lower right corner (front view) I hope understand the images (there could be some exception, rare) please check your zinc m1 / 24 skulls in your collections with teeth behind.
and last I would also like to see the participation of other collectors and more ZINC m1 / 24 skulls weights (ground dug or factory new, with or without teeth behind) .
I don't like the skull that opened this thread.First, the attachment of the antennae to the base differs from the recognized originals.Secondly it is desirable to compare the size with the original forgery usually smaller
There were two different die sets for zinc M1/24 skulls. The first, (with teeth), were the same dies they used to make their earlier CupAl skulls. The second, (solid and without teeth), produced thicker, heavier skulls. To compare one type with another, is pointless. Also, as I said before, originals of the same type will often vary anyway, but using a different type as a comparison with another type is useless.
Agree witch Chris.
Two variants were produced and they may vary eatch other even in same variant.
We see those details in big focus this way the differences looks bigger if we compare to orginal skull size.
IMO skull is orginal but in this type of skull is very ease to make mistake doing via internet opinions.
By the way I try to weight mine skulls but I have weighing machine for cartidges (not designed for coke dealers) and this way could be a problem.
well, let's just say the moustache attachment looks like it 's just been dipped in hot zinc.Perhaps this was the technology .But most often this is seen when the mustache is clamped. As for forgery, it is often smaller than the original.
