    Waffen-SS helmet cover

I collect helmets, not covers. So I need your help with this one before I sell it.

This cover came on a ND M-42 helmet, which is original. The price was right (for the helmet alone) so I bought it.

I'm keeping the helmet, but I want to part with the cover, so I need to know whether to advertise it as a repro or an original.

I'll post a number of photos, including closeups of details that I've heard collectors talk about as being important in determining the authenticity of an item like this.

PS: If I need to move this thread to the "helmet" forum, let me know. I thought the "SS uniforms" forum would be a better match.

And finally, a closeup of the stitching on the part of the cover that loops over the front brim of the helmet.

Please let me know what this is.

                Thanks,

                      Thanks for the link, Roy.

Looking at the photos of the two original covers, one thing jumps out at me. I can see that the original clip "frames" have a bend or crimp in them above the rolled edge. (Am I describing this clearly?)

But other than that, I don't see much difference between the originals and mine.

                      Please enlighten my untrained eye!

                        clips

People are hesitant to plainly state what makes a "good cover" but it usually has to do with the clips. Most agree that anodized clips are a tell-tale sign. I had three original in the early 90s, two oakleaf and one plane tree and but some believe that brass clips are also correct.

                          Clips

                          Hi,
I am looking at a First Pattern Camo Cover. The clips are brown anodized, does this sound right?
                          Thanks

Brown doesn't sound good, it should be black anodized or blank metal, this can be aluminium or steel....some people believe in brass clips too.....I don't.

                            Cheers
