Nice tunic But ... it's still Der SpIEss. Not speiss. That's the proper German word for food.

        Regards, Kees

I would need better detailed pics of certain areas, before I get exited. Certain things bother me from these pics only. For one, eagle and eagle application on a private purchase tunic? J

The tunic looks like a good Konrad Simon tailored example.
Can we get a good photo of the runic collar tab.
All the other insignia looks original and original to the tunic.
I am a little surprised a rank of such standing (Der Spiess)
does not have a Edelweiss arm badge being a member of the
            Nord Division.

What does Spiess have to do with Nord? It's a standard position that all units would have had.

Der Spiess is a general rank but the 6 on the shoulder board could indicate that this Spiess was in the Nord Division (Gebirgsjager unit).

While it's part of the discussion, the term is simply "Spiess". No "der" needed with it. And it was a position, not a rank. A friend was made "Spiess" in his company and he had the rank of Unteroffizier. When a visiting general later saw this he did tell the commander to raise his rank to Feldwebel.

                          May you excuse my question.
But wasnt the Edelweiss for SS Gebirgstruppen introduced later in year 43??

I know a lot of Pics of the Nord and on M40 and M36 Cut tunics there arent any Edelweiss...??

Also the Prinz Eugen didnt have them on These Type of Tunics / time period?

Really I am not sure....this is the reason because i did have doubts!
Bit possible an edelweiss, isnt it?

Correct re: spiess not being a rank. Hence I used "position"

I did not see the 6. But, SS Edelweiss wasn't authorized until oct 43 or so, and for Nord, you see plenty of guys without it even in 1945.
