The "Versuch" (Test) scope
The marking is here:
GZF 69V
037
ddx
This should mean test #69, serial# 037 - some of these don't have the side adjustment (but this here has).
In short, the test scopes came with and without the adjustments.
He concluded (as did I, as well as some other collectors), that this mount (which is the only one of this type known to exist), was most lkely a test/prototype example, probably to be used in conjunction with the test scopes.
The other reason it was concluded to be a pre-production example - it is the only known example.
This is not a post-war or reproduction mount. Had it been...you certainly would see more like this. The fact is...you don't. This is the only one known to exist...and it was clearly factory made (not machined, or converted by someone in a workshop). In addition...the lever will NOT fit on a standard ZF mount, as the curve/bend is differently (it is specific to this scope).
The obvious purpose of this mount is to tune in the elevation and angle of the scope, in a more permanent position while mounted on the rifle, thus zeroing it out for the user/sniper.
That said...if a ZF with the standard adjustable windage/elevation was mounted on this...the user could have it adjusted and mounted with all knobs at "0", knowing the scope is aligned permanently and correctly...and would only need to fine tune left/right and up/down based on the current situation.
