    Richtkreis 40 rk40

Picked up this very tidy RK40 yesterday (first one of this type in my collection) & I’m mighty happy!

It’s overall condition is excellent & the optics are near perfect with a crystal clear reticle. I will try get a photo of it illuminated.

    CME = Gegr Wichmann, Berlin.

Blue triangle for cold weather grease & the Red M I think is say the unit is/isn’t ? Magnetic...[emoji848]

All the dials run smoothly no jamming etc.

The compass is working still as are both spirit levels.

Even the ink stamp is still visible & legible.

Unit is much lighter than the RK31 seems to be made from a light alloy.

Interesting Grey colour on this, matches some CME Gestell 40 tripods that I’ve seen.

[emoji95]Does anyone have a lead on the periscope & the rubber eye cup?

I’d like to try complete the set if possible.

    Pics below for your enjoyment.

Now that is really nice, and its the first one I have seen in Grey colour. The rest have been in tan colour and not many at that.

Do the 40's use the same box as the RK31'S??

    Very nice score.

      TIMG,

Thanks! It’s a choice bit of kit.

Ive seen them in Green (not a repaint) in Grey (like mine) & in the Ordnance Tan. Im not sure if the Green & Grey are early versions ...?

The Ordnance Tan are the more common indeed.

You asked about the case. To be honest the wood case from what I’ve seen looks identical to the RK31 case. Ive not seen interior details to compare but i bet they are similar.
The prestoff case is also similar with some different internal fixtures to hold the individual components like the rubber eye cup.

      Hope this helps.

Here is a “scruffy” photo of the reticle illuminated & with it next to its older brother in my collection...[emoji41]
