    Sealing

I am looking for information about what kind of black sealing factory /service applied in screwholes.
    Is it colored beeswax?

Hi Nickn, it was innovative to use the wax. I'll take it to mind.
The binoculars that I will renovate are a blc 12x60.
Normally I dont do such a jobb on binoculars, I keep them as they are.

You could also try black plasticine this will not harden so it’s non invasive & could’ve dug out if need be.

Originally a mixture of Erdpech, Oil and Vaseline was used. It is still available today - it is called Bitumen, you can buy it in a Hardware store in the same cartridge like silicone. The only thing I haven't time to find out how much Vaseline must be mixed under, maybe it is not necessary either. I am planning to make a test run in the near future……..

          Regards

Not original, but today one might use silicone sealing paste. Comes in at least black or white.
Sturdy, and removable if need be.

Or, as mentioned by nickn, cheese wax:

I was thinking of using children’s pay dough died black for the early Optics and tan for the late war optics.

                    Sealant

Google DumDum sealant , been using it 20 years when restoring optics in my collection. DumDum available in strip form or in tins.

Picked one up at work this morning.

Will give it a go & see how it works.
