KuK binoculars WWI ?

Hi guys just found this nice pair of binoculars at flea market..
I think these could be Austrian WWI ..
Is it right?

Good call Martin and fine find! I have a couple of similarly KM marked binos (with the case marked as your's) and no-one seems sure if they're navy or war ministry (Kriegsmarine or Kriegs Ministerium).

Not conclusive in any way, but here is one page with austrian abbreviations.

KM is not mentioned, but Wn should mean Wiener Neustadt, an army arsenal.
That could hint at KM being Kriegsministerium.

On the other hand, the austrian navy was placed as a section under the War Ministery. There was no independent Navy Ministerial resort.
So, KM could mean: Kriegsministerium Marinesektion.

It is worthy of note, that the case do not display any eagle. In may 1918, I would expect an army item to still have an eagle from the double monarchy.

The navy was austrian, not hungarian. So, without an eagle, that may indicate navy issue.

I did try to look into austrian navy equipment but did not find anything usefull.

Nice find, Austrian Navy binos are marked with "Kriegsmarine" like this one here. I would say KM goes rather for "Kriegsministerium " in this case.

I have never seen a Wien marked Voigtländer. Didn´t know that existed.
Impressive.
And, on a related note. The minutes from the Voigtländer Company Board meetings are in the municipal archives in Braunschweig. So, another thing to look for there:
The Vienna connection.

Not to mention the capital S. ????? Coated optics ????? Objective lenses could look like that.

I'm glad I showed you something new. Anyhow the meaning of the capital "S" is unknown for me, never gave to much attention to it as I'm not really an optic collector. Even the the holster is marked this way. Do you know what does this stand for?

My guess would be the S relates to the ownership.
Too bad there is a marking plate missing on the holster, below the S. The holes from rivets can be seen.
(The danish navy used similar marking plates, only oval.)

Incidently, I just learned about the Brunswiger lion half an hour ago. I didn´t know it was a Braunschweig sculpture from around 1166. Used by Voigtlander as a logo, also used by the Büssing truck factory in their logo.
