    Grossadmiral Raeders Admiral baton Telescope

I just had to share this one.

Hitler may not have had his personal binoculars, but Grossadmiral Raeder certainly seems to have had a personalised telescope for private use.

A Busch telescope made up to look like his admiral baton.

I did check out a couple of photo´s, but small wonder, he seems to have preferred his ordinary Admiralsstab for official duty.

I cannot say if it still remain with his family. Probably yes.
But, I admit, I would envy anyone, who finds something like this.

A true "novelty" item. You choose the meaning of that here.

    An update.
    The idea wasn´t new.

At the maritime museum in Hamburg, a similar telescope is on display. Only made for Grossadmiral Prince Henrich von Preussen around WW1.

I have been to the museum, but I must have missed that.
With so much to take in, one can easily miss out something.

A photo of the Hamburg telescope can be seen in this thread:

Nice - it reinforces the concept of the officer's telescope being as much a badge of office as a maritime tool. Royal Navy officers are often pictured with them under their arm like swagger sticks.

I could parade around the poop deck of my sitting room with one of my Ross telescopes under my arm but it wouldn't make any difference to SWMBO (she who must be obeyed).

      Another fine old tradition lost...

I thought SWMBO was a Rumpole thingie only.
Not being married, I am no expert, but I think a telescope may lack the Bling factor needed to impress the fair sex.

And yes, The use of a telescope like a swagger stick is seen everywhere. One can wonder why it is so rare so see a telescope with a shoulder strap. (rare, not unknown)

Or, perhaps, attached to a lanyard. A simple 7x bino is allready hard to hold steady in nice weather.

Then again, the velvet and adler/anchor/eisern kreuz pattern on the shaft might probably thrill some of the more hipster-ish WAF membership as a wallpaper pattern for the watercloset bathroom.

...so blue. My favorite colour, but I think I prefer what I have.
( Wall to wall patchwork wallpaper, made from original SS camo uniforms. Took a lot to get it to stick to the ceiling. In all 8 rooms. A real mancave. )

Nice handiwork with the blue, btw. :-)

mlespaul. What is the diffrence between Thrilled, Exited, and Agitated ? I never quite made the distinction.
