The main use was on top of german 4 meter rangefinders.
Both in the navy and in the army.
3 went on each rangefinder as direction finders/ for observation.
Later they were also used as direction finders on german radars.
Usually, they will carry a small sign on top, telling for which use they were intended.
E.M. (EntfernungsMesser) for rangefinders, FM (FunkMess) for radars.
On your example, the plate has been removed. The screws can be seen just behind the square knob on top.
On the underside, you should be able to find a 6 digit serial number with fairly large digits.
They are 12x60. And they are very nice optics.
Search for blc 12x60 to find more photo´s of them. blc was the german military code for Zeiss.
