    Scherenfernrohr SF 35

    Hi.

I would very much like information on this SF35 scherenfernrohr made by Srb & Stys Praha that I picked up.

I have searched the web for a long time now without finding much relevant information. I do know that this particular model was made in the former Czechoslovakia and that SRB produced optics for the german army after the country was occupied.
I´ve also found out that Optikotechna was the other producer of the SF35.

The scherenfernrohr is marked with a waffenamptstamp 721. It is fully functional with nice, clear optics and has a reticle in the lens.

I figure the SF35 is quite rare??
I can´t find any other examples on the militaria-forums I´ve checked and very, very little on google. I can only find info of the SF14 by Zeiss which seems to be a lot more common.

Was this used on a tank or in the trenches?

Any information on this is very welcomed.

    All the best,
    MrMiler.

    Here's the Optikotechna version;

Looks like captured equipment, originally issued in 1935 and put into service (after inspection) by German forces. The SF designation may not be how it was originally known but added for German use. They were used in a variety of roles including in AFVs and artillery spotting. Dalekohled translates in Czeck as telescope.

My pleasure. I must have been tired last night as it's just occured to me - just as the Panzer 38(T) was a 1938 Czechoslovakian tank taken over by the Germans (Czechoslovakia is written Tschechoslowakei in German), so the SF 35 (T) indicates it's a 1935 Czechoslovakian optic taken over by the Germans.

My first cup of tea has perked me up!

          Dalekohled also translates into binoculars.

But super interesting item. I wonder what has happened to these. They ought to be seen pretty much in abundance, given the size of the CZ military.
Maybe they never got around to bouying them in larger numbers, with only 3 years between model and german occupation.

My mistake - it makes more sense to call them binoculars rather than a telescope. Maybe I was swayed by the fact that a Dalek has only one eye...

Thanks for the respons and information.

Maybe it was a bit overload to post 16 pictures, but seemingly there is not many known of this type I thought the forum should have them for future reference.

Thanks for posting it - without your pictures I'd probably never have come across a pair.
