Just wondering why very little history is known about Askania optics . Very few binoculars seen .

Askania still exists. Seems they only make watches now. You might write to them...they might have some info in their files.

You gave me a heart attack. I thought I had overlooked that one.... until I saw it was 2013. Then I saw the hammer price, and that cooled it completely.
Still...very nice but not one I would except to get, ever.

          I've never had an Askania binocular but do have a very nice Askania 12x60 monocular from a cinetheodolite. Here's one at White Sands;

I also have a Bamberwerk binocular from around WW1 - not Askania but certainly linked to them.

Serial- and issue numbers of the 8x60-ies would be nice, for the list here. Especially the MSS.

Depending on survival, and owners accept, of course.

Great, the grey one is the B.N.Z.A Brücken Nacht Ziel Apparat.
According to Peter de Laet´s text, rare. Something of an understatement.

With that one, it would be interesting to see the reticle.

Please do not get a heart attack !.. Okay, probably goes without saying.

                        I don´t quite understand how a BNZA can be a TUZA ?
                        (TUZA 2a that is.)
Turm Unterseeboot Ziel Apparat, I suppose ? A UDf on a TUZA makes sense.
And a TUZA must be able to withstand water, if it is intended to dive outside the hull of a uboat. A BNZA would not have to be as rugged.

I don´t know if the BNZA was intended for, or used, on uboats.
To me, it sounds more like something for an E-boat (S-boot)
Even though they may have similar functions.

                        Very nice photo btw.

Info sofar is that this wasnt in use on an uboat . Its too big and then it was used as a BNZA on other boats

If you study the photo you will see 2 UDF in the case and 1 small rza + 4 raintubes

TUZA= Torpedo-Uboot-Zielapparat. The 2a type case carried 2 UDF with two sets of rain guards, but no RZA. The BNZA type 2 shown here was (pre-1945) never fitted to a TUZA, nor part of a U-Boot or S-Boot fire control system. The set (BNZA 2 on TUZA 2a) shown above is a combination which stems from the time when it was used by the Norwegian Naval/Coastal Forces. UDF and BNZA are interchangeable on either type of TUZA. Such is possible because the part with the smallest diameter on the UDF hinge is identical to (and as long as) that of the BNZA (and a few others).
