              Bino's

Thanks very much. Any idea of the value on something like this. I would like to sell them.

A very nice set of binoculars and thank you for posting! We need to see more of these large binoculars.

As to value; It really depends on a few things as follows:

                1) Exterior condition; whether these have the original WWII paint and how the finish has held up?

                2) Are all the parts there (headrest, Notvisier (the thing that looks like a toast rack that mounts on top), rain/sun shield tubes, battery box and reticle illumination cable? Condition and cosmetic condition of these parts is also important.

                3) Condition of the optics (lenses, prisms, function). Can you see any dirt or fogging inside? Any cracks or chips in the glass? When you look at the large lenses (front) do you see any scratches or snowflake/flower patterns (separation between the lenses)? How is the colimination? Is the reticle in the right hand lens still present?

                4) Do the filters work freely and correctly?

                5) Cradle/turntable condition; Do these turn freely? Any damaged or missing knobs or other parts? Any corrosion and or paint flaking (mostly occurs on the alloy versions)? Any missing parts (handle, bubble level)?

                6) Is the orginal transport case present? Does this transport case have original paint, parts list & are the accessories (drafting/plotting tools, spare bulbs, cleaning brush, etc) present? How is the overall condition of the transport case?

                7) Tripod; Is the tripod the steel or alloy version? Is the original paint present? Does it have the transport end caps? How is the function of the tripod (frozen, stiff, normal)? How is the cosmetic condition of the tripod? At least in the USA tripods are more rare than the binoculars and steel tripods rarer than alloy tripods (or so I have been told).

                8) Maker & when produced; Some makers are more rare and hence desirable. Very early flak binoculars are worth more. I understand that some flak binoculars had coated lenses and if the coating is still OK I would think this would add value.
