Leather Buttonhole pouch...for what? Waff'd and coded

Your help please. I'm starting here simply because I've seen leather retaining straps for binocs with a buttonhole and thought this could be related, although perhaps for larger optics or not even optics related at all. 9 3/4 inches in total length (25cm). Purchased at a family estate where two brothers served in Europe. One Army and the other AAF. Thanks for any help you can provide. Brian

I believe it is not for binoculars. I have seen some of these before. If you post at the equipment forum you might get a more acurate answer. I can imagine it might be for some small tool, eg. a pocket-knife or similar.
