Yes as Mauser 99 mentioned it is BMJ . BMJ and DKL Turret Scopes can be Identified even when You can not see the Code there is a difference in location of Ring Placement on the Tube . This also changes the Eye Relief Distance . If You place a Sauer Mounted BMJ Turret Scope and Mauser Mounted DKL Turret Scope You will see difference . Best Regards

Hello,
I would say rifle is a BYF44 k (K) l (L) block (little sloppy on solder) HT with BMJ scope due to bottom screw on tube and placement of the rings setting like Dave said J.P. Sauer would be place differently. I have not seen as many as Dave but DKL usually has a non ribbed straight like BLC/Zeiss sunshade unless its post war, even though again it also has a 1-8 dial which post war early also have. the rifle has the single E/135 on RHS of the receiver its a small version a J.P. Sauer E280 or E359 are much larger. also when blown up there appears to be a readable 44 on the barrel code present in BYF style font and BYF1 in shield half proof near wood line. also rear sight base has typical proof present but unreadable but BYF was about the only ones left proofing rear sight barrel sleeves with a single E135, they did this way late in 1945 to end of production I believe.
later

Audie Murphys Rifle
Well the clue is in the original posters user name, this appears to be Audie Murphy's captured K98 sniper he brought back to states with him. Byf May 44 HT # 38485 d I had previously recorded with bmj scope serial number 73178.
The last posting I saw on this rifle it had disappeared, where is it now displayed?
There was a thread on this rifle here on WAF with some Black & White pictures but cannot find link where I got info from only this related one:

Thanks for posting pic.Last edited by Valleysniper; 08-14-2013, 01:58 PM.
