NPEA Binos and Case - Rodenstock

    NPEA Binos and Case - Rodenstock

    Hi all
    Would like your opinion on these G. Rodenstock 6x30 binos.
    The case is a Hensoldt which I think reading the following passage found on the web, is a correct match for the Binos.

    'Binocular 6 x 30 Cases. The 6 x 30 binoculars of G. Rodenstock,
    Munich, up to production number 203501 of M. Hensoldt and Sons, Wetzlar,
    ------------ are possibly to be stored in the case for the binocular 6 x
    30 made of leather, since they can only with difficulty be stored in the
    cases of bakelite.'

    Interesting thing is the NPEA marking on the case, I think. The binos themselves are in good working order with good optics and have graticule markings as can be seen in photos.

    What sort of value would we be looking at to a political colector ??

            Hi Sturgis,
            the binocular case is mid 30's German military contract specs ...but the N.P. E.A. markings are not known to me ( German post office /police markings?) Someone else might be able to help you here.
            The binocs are also mid 30's, but do not have the usual Dientsglas markings of the German army although they are of a full military spec. This may be because they were made for a foreign military order eg Sweden or Finland . Do they have foreign ownership markings on the bottom prism covers? Perhaps they were made specifically for the German Police? Why the binoculars are of military spec but have commercial markings is a mystery for me.
            Anyway the items are in great original condition!!In terms of value I'd say about $US 80 - 90 for the binos and about $US 120 for the case. Perhaps if you placed them in a a cardboard carton and advertised them on German Ebay you might get E1400 for them heheheh (see post below on a set of ordinary but minty CZ Dienstglas 6x30 )

              The NPEA is quite well known, and a specialist collecting area. It was a kind of next step up from the HJ in terms of Education and doctrine.

              Nationalpolitische Erziehungsanstalten (officially abbreviated NPEA, commonly abbreviated Napola, meaning National Political Institution of Teaching) were secondary boarding schools in Nazi Germany. They were founded as "community education sites" after the National Socialist seizure of power in 1933.
              The goal of the schools was to raise a new generation for the political, military, and administrative leadership of the Nazi state.

              As a paramilitary organisation the binos are military style and used in a military style as the HJ would have done.

                NPEA class room equipment

                hi sturgis, thanks for the info on NPEA. Certainly would be a specialist field of collecting!!! Coincidentally I was aware of a castle in a small Bavarian village
                of Neubeuern ( not far from Rosenheim ) which from 1941-1945 was used for such political- educational purposes.
                However from 1948 to this day the castle has been used as a school -see link

                  Not much comment on these ?
                  On searching the site, the only items I have come accross regarding the NPEA is the very collectable daggers, a few shoulder boards and a couple of portrait photos.
                  Seems that NPEA marked items are very thin on the ground.
                  Would like to find out if this set has any real value before maybe putting on the estand.

                    I think that case is worthless.... heh heh.

                    The NPEA is well known. I checked on wikipedia. I didn´t know it became part of the SS organisation. So, one way to look at it, this is a case that could be said to be part of the Allgemeine SS inventory.

                    I think Mr. Angolia wrote something about NPEA in one of his books.
                    I checked. seems he only covered belt buckles and daggers.

                    One of the schools was the former Imperial KadettenAnstalt. It was so hard for the children, that two of them committed suicide around 1901, causing a major scandal. After all, it was usually the children of the aristocrazy who went there.
                    And such children are not supposed to be so harshly treated they kill themself. A nice basis for a NS school.

                    My guess would be that there must be german papers written about this.

                    The case can very well belong to the inventory in one of those schools. What I wonder about, is why it has no inventory number. But maybe they only marked it with the letters.

                    Nice unusual case.
                    And I do not think it needs to be put into a cardboard box, to reach a nice price on say, ebay.de.

                    English text will do, only remember to add at least the word 2WK fernglas and NPEA in the headline for the auction.

                    And for those who likes flicks.. try the german movie: Der Unhold ( I cannot recall seeing a case like this, in it, but the surroundings are perfect)
