    Neck Straps

Is this Diesntglas 6X30 neckstrap genuine? Note that the seller states it has brass studs. I thought the studs were usually steel or alloy.

Also, how can one identify an original neckstrap for a blc U Boat 7X50 - what should the dimensions of the leather be and what should the studs be made of?

It is genuine, in my opinion. I have seen original straps from pre-1945 period having brass, aluminum, and steel studs (painted glossy black). The brass ones usually have verdigris (green corrosion that occurs when copper comes into contact with leather) issues. Other things to look for are the width (usually 9mm, I believe) and the prescence of embossed lines on the outer edges running the length of the strap. Should be dyed on one side only. The age of the leather should be apparent, once you have it in hand.

    Regards,
    Kent G.
