These are not typical u-boat binoculars but were widely used in the Kriegsmarine by different branches but in the world of collectors they are known as u-boat glasses,

Hi Sscrooge,
yes, this is referred to as the 7x50 uboat glass. According to Dr Stephen Rohan, [a guide to handheld military binoculars] it was the 'primary late WW2 U Boat binocular' with a waterproof cast metal housing and partial rubber armour. I've only seen a few pictures of u boat crew using this particular glass; there are many other zeiss and Leitz KM glasses which also appear in on-board u- boat photographs.

According to Hans Seeger's book [Military binoculars and telescopes for land, air and sea service], yours was one of a production run of 6000 glasses.

A nice, collectable piece.
